The FBI Agents Association (FBIAA), representing more than 13,000 active and retired FBI Special Agents, held its second annual G-Man Honors gala and fundraising event on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, in Washington, DC. The event featured Admiral William McRaven (Ret.), Chancellor of the University of Texas System, who received the FBIAA Distinguished Service Award.
Over 180 people including Members of Congress, senior law enforcement officials, corporate leaders, and others attended the event held at the Center for Strategic and International Studies to raise money for FBIAA’s two charitable funds.
“G-Man Honors is a special evening dedicated to recognizing the service and sacrifice of the men and women of the FBI,” said FBIAA President Reynaldo Tariche. “We were thrilled to have so many of our heroes and friends in attendance and we were honored to present our highest award to such a deserving recipient in Chancellor McRaven.”
McRaven, who currently oversees 14 institutions that educate 217,000 students, recently retired as a four-star admiral after 37 years as a Navy SEAL. His last assignment with the Navy was Commander of U.S. Special Operations Command, and he is credited with coordinating and overseeing the execution of the raid that led to the death of Osama bin Laden in May of 2011.
Other high-profile speakers at the event included FBI Director James Comey (by video), former FBI Directors William Webster and Robert Mueller, former Congressman Mike Rogers, and former Mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani.
The evening also featured a video tribute to members of the FBI’s elite Hostage Rescue Team (HRT).
Proceeds from the event will benefit the FBIAA Memorial College Fund which provides scholarships for the children and spouses of deceased FBI Agents and the FBIAA Membership Assistance Fund which provides financial assistance to FBIAA members and their families who have been affected by sudden hardship or tragedy.
“The men and women who serve our nation as FBI Special Agents put their lives on the line every day,” said Tariche. “As long as there are Agents willing to take great personal risk to keep Americans safe, part of our mission at the FBIAA will be to stand ready to help them, or their families, if they need it.”
Sponsors of G-Man Honors included Bracewell LLP, Ambassador Mary Ourisman, General Electric, Goldman Sachs, Greenberg Traurig LLP, Senator Tim and Randi Hutchinson, Lane Office, LifeLock, Inc., Merck & Co., Palantir Technologies, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Remington Defense Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI, Inc., Sotera Defense Solutions, Inc., The Walt Disney Company and 19/19 Investment Counsel.
