Washington, DC: FBI Agents Association (FBIAA) President Reynaldo Tariche issued the following statement on the recent bombings in New Jersey and New York:

“The recent bombings in New Jersey and New York are a reminder of the difficult and important tasks performed by FBI Special Agents every day. The arrest of the suspect within hours of the bombing, which was accomplished as a result of the FBI working in concert with partners in state and local law enforcement through the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, demonstrated once again why the FBI is the premier law enforcement agency in the world.

The FBIAA urges politicians, policymakers, and the public to come together in support of law enforcement during these challenging times, and resist the temptation to “armchair quarterback” their work. FBI Special Agents place their lives on the line each and every day to keep the American people safe from criminal and national security threats.

Supporting law enforcement also means ensuring that Special Agents and other law enforcement officers know that they will receive appropriate support if they suffer injuries or illnesses as a result of their investigative work. For example, the families of Special Agents who have grown ill or died as result of health conditions connected directly to their investigations of the 9/11 terrorist attacks should know their sacrifices will be treated by the government as what they are — Agents sacrificing their lives in the performance of their duties.”
